Wichita Falls ISD announced Ross Dillard as the new head football coach at Memorial High School last week.
Dillard replaced Marc Bindel, whose departure led the district to search for his replacement among more than 50 candidates.
Dillard has been coaching for 12 years within WFISD, with 10 years at Rider High School and the last two at Memorial High School.
“I’m honored to continue working for WFISD,” Dillard said. “It’s a great place to work, and I’m excited to continue. I want to build on the existing foundation and continue developing our athletic program.”
Initially, Dillard was the defensive coordinator, so moving up to being the head football coach was a big step for him. However, he is eager for the challenge.
“I’m honored I mean, it’s a really big deal being the head football coach of a program, but to also be a coordinator of the entire program,” Dillard said. “It’s a great opportunity, and I’m really excited.”
Dillard grew up in a household of educators, a background that, along with the influence of his childhood coaches, led him to the coaching profession as well.
“My coaches growing up had a big hand in making me who I am, which led me to want to be able to make an impact on others as well, which is what I believe God wanted me to do,” Dillard said.
After 21 years of coaching, Dillard emphasized the importance of the memories that come along with the job that makes it worth it.
“The very first time we won the regional football championship was truly a memorable moment for me,” Dillard said. “We had such a great group of athletes and students.
“Another moment that I enjoyed was coaching an athlete who became a regional champion in the long jump and qualified for the state competition. However, it is the dedication and hard work these athletes put in that stands out to me the most .”
Going forward, Dillard is excited and fully committed to improving our program as the head coach.
“I want to create a program that will earn the pride of not only our campus and district, but our entire community as well,” he said. “This is an exciting yet daunting challenge, and I’m ready to get to work. We’re going to roll up our sleeves and make it happen.”
