Memorial and Legacy’s combined band trip to perform in the London New Year’s Day parade was deemed an exciting accomplishment for the students and directors.
The itinerary included an eight-mile march, shopping, dining out and touring London. Many students such as senior Kevin Hernandez Moreno enjoyed touring London.
“My favorite part was going to the tower of London,” Hernandez said. “It was really cool seeing how far away time was back then there were just so many old things which just really admired me.”
Beyond the excitement of performing and touring, the experience was also built on memories that were made. Caroline Wynne noted how cold the weather was, but she shared that her favorite part was “shopping and sightseeing.”
The enthusiasm of the parade was increased by the crowd cheering for everyone.
Mason Marias said his favorite part was “walking down the street and seeing the crowd around us just being absolutely enthusiastic and impressed by our performance.”
Despite the challenges of planning the trip, Marias also said the hard work was worth it once everything came together.
Band director Michael Walta also described this trip as a success. Even though the process of combining two rival high schools together to compete as one was challenging, the students and teachers enjoyed reuniting with classmates.
“This performance was probably our best, and I think we made Wichita Falls and Texas very proud of how we did,” Walta said. “It was really nice seeing the kids work together to accomplish one goal while also uniting with their friends.”
