It’s time for the Mavericks to go against the Leopards. Rivalry week starts Monday, so here’s what to look forward to before the big game on Friday night.
The week starts off before Monday with hallway decorating. Students are able to come decorated on Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
“Every club, organization and team gets a chance to focus on school spirit and make the halls a little more fun to walk down for a week,” student council sponsor Carlye Bindel said.
On Monday, it’s time to sleep in because there’s no school, but make sure to bring your best outfit for the dress-up days the rest of the week. All four days will have a different theme such as Adam Sandler Day on Tuesday and color wars on Wednesday.
The Stampede, one of the most-liked student events, is back for another year. Texoma Cowboy Church will be hosting a bonfire and rodeo games on Thursday at 7 p.m. for rivalry week.
“Incoming seniors met with the principal and came up with a list of traditions that they wanted to bring in and a couple they wanted to start new,” Bindel said. “This is a tradition that is brand new to Memorial.”
The whole school will be in silence on Friday. Silent Stampede allows for no talking from students or staff anywhere in the school until the pep rally. The silence is so everyone is hype and loud for the football game that night at 7 p.m.
“It’s time for the entire school to come together and celebrate the fact that this is the absolute best high school in Wichita Falls,” Bindel said.
