With the weather about to get colder, leaves changing color and Halloween just three weeks away, people are getting into the fall mood. Pumpkin spice candles, orange and yellow decorations, football games. Fall has got to be one of the most soothing, calm seasons.
And Halloween is probably the most fun holiday, with trick-or-treating, dressing up as your favorite characters and most importantly, getting scared. But one of the best parts of Halloween, and probably the better option for older kids/adults, is watching your favorite Halloween movies.
Everyone has seen Scream, Nightmare on Elm Street and the Halloween movies. While those are all wonderful to watch with your friends or even on your own, after watching them every year, they tend to get a bit repetitive.
That’s why I went out and watched four Halloween or scary movies that you may or may not have seen. I recommend you watch these if you’re looking for something different, or just want some good movies to watch as Halloween approaches.
Bird Box
Not exactly a Halloween movie, but if you want a good thrill and love intense and suspenseful movies, then “Bird Box” is for you. It follows a family of three trying to stay alive in a world that’s been invaded by this creature that kills you when looking at it. Definitely not a movie for the light-hearted either, because the deaths are a bit gruesome. However it makes for a good movie to get that adrenaline rushing, and a slight scare here and there.
Hubie Halloween
Everybody knows Adam Sandler. He’s famous for all his hilarious movies, like this one. Hubie Halloween follows the protagonist Hubie and his goal to keep Halloween safe while also keeping it fun. However, it’s made very clear that the whole town hates Hubie, and they continuously prank him. But there’s an abductor on the loose, and Hubie tries to figure out what is going on. Watching this movie, you’ll recognize tons of actors, such as Kenan Thompson, Shaq, Noah Schnapp, Kevin James and Lavell Crawford.
Monster House
If you’re looking for a good movie to watch around kids, what better movie than Monster House? It’s not one of those overly watered down kid movies, and it actually has a good story in it. The story follows a group of kids who investigate a house that has come alive, hence the name, “Monster House.” They try to unravel the secrets held inside, and uncover the mystery behind the strange home. Watching Monster House even with your friends could be an enjoyable experience and is honestly probably part of a lot of people’s childhood. You’ll be sure to recognize some familiar voices, with big actors like Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Jason Lee and Catherine O’Hara.
Nope
Do slashers and gore not fit your tastes? Are you looking for a more scientific approach to horror? Then you should watch Nope! Nope is an alien movie that revolves mainly around a group who used to train horses for filming when they ultimately get fired because one of their horses went haywire after these strange metallic objects fell from the sky. They discover that there’s a UFO taking the horses, and they go on trying to catch it. With actors like Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer and Steven Yuen, this movie manages to be both intense and interesting. A must-watch for those of you who may enjoy alien-type stuff.
