Memorial High School’s first prom will take place on Saturday, April 6, with the theme of a masquerade ball. The theme was chosen in the fall with the help of junior class officers, who wanted something fancy and memorable.
“We kept coming back to a masquerade ball,” sponsor Erin Dillard, the main organizer of the prom, said. “We wanted it to be special for the students.”
This is Dillard’s first time organizing prom, and the planning has had its challenges.
“Neither I nor the junior class officers have ever put on a prom, so it’s been a learning experience,” she said.
While excited about the event, the process has been stressful due to last-minute ticket and guest form submissions. Thursday is the final day to purchase tickets for the event, which lasts from 7-10 p.m.
“It’s tough balancing my regular duties with prom planning,” Dillard said. “It’s hard when some guest forms are denied. But we want everyone to have a fun and safe night.”
Instead of traditional tickets, students will be added to an admission list when they arrive. There will be a limited number of keepsake tickets for memorabilia, like a scrapbook or something like that.
“We’re only selling 200 keepsake tickets, so it’s a special keepsake for those who want one,” Dillard said.
With a target of 300 attendees, Dillard hopes the night will be a success.
“I just really hope that everybody has fun.” she said. “I just want to make sure everybody’s patient and understanding, but have a really good time as well.”
