With testing finishing up and the first semester coming to an end, Wendy Presson said the first round of state testing went well.
“For being in a new facility, testing has been going very smoothly,” said Presson, the school’s testing coordinator. “I was very pleased. It went really well, we had no problems, no testing violations, it just went well.”
The staff made good use of A-wing to take care of this first wave of tests, and they hope to use it once more in four months. The first round included end of course (EOC) STAAR exams for English I and II, algebra 1, biology and U.S. history.
In these new schools, there’s so much more space to put students who might need to make up any testing. However, with so many kids, it’s difficult to keep them all together in one place.
“It is kind of hard not having a library,” Presson said. “I kind of miss the enclosed space, but we really made ROTC work really well for our make-up testing, so that space worked out really well.”
With all these kids bundled up in one school, just finding the space is hard enough. However, they made great use of the auditorium, sending kids there for displacement.
“I don’t know if it was easier, we were kind of trying to figure out what space would fit best,” Presson said. “And in the first floor of the A-wing, we could lock it down easier so it made a good area.”
