Senior Josiah Grant is enjoying the first year of Memorial football and is glad to be reunited with old friends this season.
The Memorial Messenger sat down with Grant for senior night to discuss his favorite parts of being a captain and playing high school football.
Q: What’s your favorite memory playing football for Memorial so far?
A: Being able to be with all my friends, because I came from Barwise and I was supposed to go to Old High, but I went to Rider. So allowing all my friends to be together at one school, it’s just a lot of fun.
Q: What has been your favorite part of being a captain?
A: Just being able to lead my guys in each game we play. They look at me as their leader so I want to be that guy for them.
Q: What will you miss most about playing high school football?
A: Just the road trips, the games, and just being around everybody just makes the season. Sometimes it’s not even about winning and losing, it’s just about being with everybody.
Q: What has being a part of Memorial’s first varsity team meant to you?
A: It means a lot because we’re the ones that kind of have to set to set the tone for how the rest of the Memorial football will be. So far we’ve been doing a great job, so it just means a lot right now.
Q: How do you feel like the season’s gone?
A: This year the season’s gone so good, it’s been going so smooth. For us to be combining schools, everyone’s got along great. A lot of people are just glad to be together. This could probably be the best thing that’s happened for a lot of us.
Q: How have you grown as a player from freshman year?
A: I’ve definitely gotten more disciplined and I’ve definitely been more of a team player and more about including everybody since my freshman year.
Q: What are your plans for after graduation?
A: I plan to attend college and get an engineering degree. I’ll probably go to Texas Tech.
