The bistro at Memorial serves students before school and during both lunches.
Students can skip the drive-thru lines and long waits at off-campus places now that the bistro finally opened in September.
The bistro brings on-the-go items, hot food and new options like coffee or slushies, giving students affordable prices for their favorite items while also making cafeteria lines shorter.
“I think it’s just to give you a little something extra, something fun and more exciting,” food service worker Jordan Schneider said. “More options and it kind of negates the traffic from the cafeteria, so we can lessen the load that they have and bring y’all over here.”
Students are only able to access the bistro for breakfast and both lunches. Coffee seems to be the most popular among students that need a wake-up call before their first period.
“I need my energy in the morning, and plus who doesn’t like having a good little cup of coffee,” junior Brooklynn Lacy said. “They’re a little small, perfectly sized.”
Items range from $1-3.50. An espresso shot is $1 and tea is $1.50. Drip coffee is $2 and a cold-press, iced Americano and iced latte are all $2.50. A hot latte and a cappuccino are both $3.50. The tumbler is the only item above the price range at $9.
“There’s not a lot of places where you’re going to get good coffee for $3.50,” sophomore Elsy Zuniga said. “I love coffee and I think everything they have there is better.”
Zuniga recommends the iced latte with caramel and vanilla. Meanwhile, Lacy offered three recommendations – the cappuccino, the Americano and the espresso.
“If you want to put your foot in the water, get the shot of espresso,” Lacy said. “I just wish there were more pastries. Like little sweets or tarts, something that would go with the coffee.”
Schneider said the bistro has been a hit with students, proving to be a great addition to the lunch area.
“I think that they feel special,” Schneider said about student reaction. “I think that it’s cool y’all feel appreciative.”
