Shaylee Eagle is a senior captain of the cheerleading squad at Memorial High School and will be recognized at tonight’s football game.
Eagle talked about her love of cheer, the sport’s impact and what it means to be captain with The Memorial Messenger.
Q: Why did you start cheerleading?
A: I started cheerleading because I’ve always had a passion for it. My mom and sister did it so I wanted to continue the legacy.
Q: What makes cheer special for you?
A: Cheer is special to me because I love the feeling of having little girls look up to you. I also love the family you get to create.
Q: What’s your favorite cheer memory?
A: My favorite cheer memory is getting to go to competitions for all-star cheer. It’s a completely different world and my amazing team and coach were such a blessing.
Q: What will you miss once you leave?
A: I will miss seeing my girls every day when I leave.
Q: How have you changed since your freshman year and why?
A: I have become so much more confident in front of people since my freshman year. I’ve also learned so many life lessons while being a cheerleader, such as how I treat people and how I carry myself.
Q: What do you enjoy most in cheer?
A: The thing I enjoy most about cheer is getting to perform.
Q: What impact do you want to make as a captain?
A: I want to overall make the environment and experience fun and enjoyable. I want to leave the team prepared to win competitions, as well as working together and building each other up.
