Memorial High School will be kicking off Homecoming week with a new tradition set in place.
Instead of the parade that was held last year, administrators and staff have decided to have a highly anticipated event called The Tailgate Monday in parking lot 4 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.=
This year’s homecoming week will also include a movie theme named “Mavs at the Movies.” Clubs, organizations and teams will have different themed booths and attractions that fit their theme at The Tailgate.
“Baseball will be ‘The Sandlot,’ athletic trainers will be ‘Water Boy’ and even have their own dunk booth,” art teacher Carlye Bindel said.
Students and community members are encouraged to come and support. There will be no entry cost and motorized vehicles will not be allowed to drive around The Tailgate.
“We encourage everyone to vote for the best tailgate with a dollar system, where proceeds from that will be split between Student Council and the PTSO,” Bindel said.
The Memorial High School band is raising money for their trip in London over Christmas break.
“Instead of food trucks we wanted to help and support our band in getting them to London, and ultimately we decided to do something great for them,” senior sponsor Wendy Presson said.
Students are also encouraged to dress up as cartoon characters, super heroes, favorite decades and show their school spirit.
Memorial will be playing Frenship for the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Friday. The school’s queen and king will be announced before the football game.
Following the game is the most anticipated event during homecoming week. The Homecoming dance will occur on Saturday from 7:30-10 p.m. taking place at the auxiliary gym. Tickets are available at the media center and will be $10 each.
If a student wishes to bring a friend from another school, they must first fill out a form located at the front office and purchase a ticket for that friend. Students of all grade levels are encouraged to come and have a great time.
