Memorial and Legacy’s bands are coming together to put on one big show, aptly titled “Fusion.”
The idea of a collaborative, end-of-year show came after the end of Electronica, Rider High School’s annual spring band performance, and the two school’s band directors began brainstorming.
They eventually landed on the idea of Fusion. Fusion is similar to Electronica in many ways, but there are also some more beneficial differences that allow students from both high schools to be involved in the production.
“The overall production of the show is flowing a lot differently,” assistant band director Thomas Borgman said. “But, I also think it’s similar in certain ways, we’re just approaching it differently this time.”
Borgman also pointed out some of the difficulties that have during this performance.
“The biggest struggle that comes with combining both bands is definitely different playing styles,” Borgman said. “The kids know different things and they all approach their instruments a little bit differently, so that’s been a challenge to kind of work with.”
Senior Alyssa Hoang is a section leader for Memorial band and plays a key role in “Fusion,” which is also her last high school band performance.
“It’s been a roller coaster of emotions from being stressed to make sure everyone is getting along, has their instruments ready and to make sure the show goes smoothly,” Hoang said. “But, it’s also been so much fun since I get to see old friends and just hang out with amazing people.”
Both Borgman and Hoang are encouraging people to come see “Fusion” and are excited for the community to see what the two bands have put together.
“The biggest selling point for ‘Fusion’ is that it’s engaging and it’s fun,” Borgman said. “It’s one of the coolest things you’ll get to see if you’re a fan of music. We’re playing a lot of different styles of music and we hope the crowd loves it and gets really into it.”
“It’s an amazing show to go watch to see both schools’ percussionists hard work,” Hoang said. “We’ve worked really hard on this show with the amount of time we had and we’d appreciate all the support we could get.”
“Fusion” will have performances on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m. The show will take place in Legacy High School’s auditorium and tickets can be purchased at the door.
