Tons of people have been longing for “A Minecraft Movie” for years now. It finally was released last Friday, and while it may not be the number one absolute best movie of all-time plotwise, it was still an amazing experience. Just being in the theatre with friends and watching our childhood game come to life within a crappily animated movie.
“A Minecraft Movie” follows a simple plot. The main character group finds themselves in the world of Minecraft after discovering a strange artifact within a case. After entering the world, the artifact gets destroyed, and the group has to find a new case for the orb before the enemies can get their hands on it so they can return home.
The entire movie was filled with stupid jokes and hilarious moments, with Jack Black being an amazing choice for Steve’s character. Black paired with Jason Momoa makes for tons of funny scenes and quotes.
Coming in hot regarding the design of the movie, I think it’s safe to say that many people were disappointed with it. After watching the movie, the animation style and CGI grew on me. However, plenty of people weren’t pleased with how the movie turned out look-wise.
The whole live-action aspect of the movie wasn’t a horrible idea, but when you try to make blocky mobs from a game known for its simplicity look realistic, they turn into living nightmares. Indeed, the mobs in the movie look creepy and weird, but that adds to the stupidly funny part of the movie. It looks so bad that it’s humorous, which I’m sure the directors did on purpose, so overall, it wasn’t horrible in my opinion.
Tons of people went to “A Minecraft Movie” for the iconic lines spoken throughout the movie from the trailers. Jack Black naming a bunch of different objects and mobs from the game in his iconic Jack Black voice makes for a cinematic masterpiece. And the theatre reactions to these scenes just make the entire experience 10 times better.
The audience breaks into a standing ovation when a Chicken Jockey appears on the screen. This movie is one of those movies that you can’t watch alone, and you kind of have to watch it with friends just because of how goofy it is.
Regarding the cast, you can already tell it’ll be a good one just because Jack Black is in it. Jack Black is known for having some of the most iconic and hilarious movies of all time, like “Nacho Libre,” “School of Rock,” “Jumanji,” “Kung-Fu Panda” and so much more.
However, Jack Black won’t be the only familiar face you see in this movie. You’ll also notice Jason Momoa, Jemaine Clement, Danielle Brooks and Jennifer Coolidge along with tons of cameos from huge Minecraft influencers like DanTDM, Jeb, Mumbo Jumbo, Amphu and a moving tribute to Technoblade.
Now what about a second one? There was a lot of stuff in the game that was left out or just skipped over in the movie. For example, the End dimension. This dimension is a massive part of the game, seeing as you have to beat the Ender Dragon who resides in the End to actually beat the game.
Another example could be the post-credit scene, when we see a short scene involving another main character in the game, Alex. I think there’s a lot of potential for a second movie, and while it may not be as popular as the first, it’ll still be a pretty cool movie to go and watch if there is ever one made.
All in all, “A Minecraft Movie” was a great movie. It was very nostalgic for those who played it in the past, and even though it’s joked to be a horrible movie, it wasn’t all that bad. I would definitely watch it (with friends) again.
