As spring rolls in, warmer temperatures, rainier days and lush gardens become the norm throughout the spring season.
Since both rain and sun are more common in the spring than in the winter, maintenance on yards and nature is required.
Two students, senior Xander Montoya and junior Parker Deal, own and operate landscaping businesses in town that are seeing a spike in business as the spring season begins.
Montoya is the primary owner of Cuts N’ Curbs, which maintains flower beds, cuts grass, trims trees and other kinds of yardwork. Alongside Montoya, other Memorial students work for Cuts N’ Curbs: seniors Jaiden Di Gennaro, Joseph Di Gennaro, Colden Dunn-Phelps, Elias Garcia and John Vincent Villastrigo.
“In the winter, we only have about 25 customers a week,” Montoya said. “However, during the spring and summer, we normally have like 100 customers a week.”
Montoya has always been close friends with Jaiden Di Gennaro so Di Gennaro jumped at the opportunity to get to work with one of his best friends.
“I started working for Xander about a year ago,” Jaiden Di Gennaro said. “Nothing beats working with your friends while also getting paid.”
Cuts N’ Curbs is not the only landscaping business owned and operated by a student. Junior Parker Deal considers himself an entrepreneur, starting his business, WF Aesthetics, a couple of years ago completely from scratch.
“We do anything involving commercial and residential landscaping,” Deal said. “My favorite part of the job is seeing a project from start to finish and getting to bring a client’s vision to life.”
Both Deal and Montoya agreed that they stay pretty busy throughout the spring and summer months, managing multiple projects at once.
